Taita-Taveta County has three very different areas: Voi on the Mombasa–Nairobi highway, the Taita Hills around Wundanyi and Mwatate, and Taveta on the Tanzanian border. Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks cover much of the county. Tuk-tuks work the towns and the short routes between them.

Where the passenger work is
Voi is the busiest market. Tuk-tuks carry passengers between the bus stage, the market, the hospital, the estates and the SGR station outside town. Highway traffic brings travellers who need short rides. Taveta has steady work around the market and the border post with Tanzania. In Wundanyi and Mwatate, trips are fewer but matatus are limited on hill routes, so private hire is common.
Cargo from farms and the highway
Taveta is known for irrigated farming, with bananas, tomatoes, onions and other produce going to markets in Voi and Mombasa. The Taita Hills grow vegetables and fruit in small plots. In Voi, highway trade and shops need deliveries from wholesalers, and building around town needs sand and ballast moved. The Champion CH250 suits produce runs; the CH250/T tipper suits building work.
Hills, heat and the highway
The highway and main town roads are tarmac, and heavy trucks use the Mombasa–Nairobi road, so stay visible and drive defensively. Roads into the Taita Hills are steep and winding, which asks more of the engine and brakes when loaded. The Champion CH300 has the most power in the range and every Champion has five forward gears and a reverse. Lowland areas are hot and dusty, so service air filters and brakes on schedule.
